What a struggling week for me when tried to fix my blog which was down for almost a week !
I got some emails asking me whether my blog was hacked. Hmmm…no, it was not. It’s my fault :). Basically I screwed up the database and the next thing I realized was my blog is gone. It was no longer accessible. I quickly FTP to my server and look for my database backup. The database backup is scheduled every week which once completed will be saved to a folder in the server. Oh no again, the backup wasn’t completed successfully, something is not right either with the backup plugin or the server….:(
I tried to contact my host the same night when this nightmare happened. After explained to them what had happened, the engineer promised to restore everything back to me…oh, that’s great ! I felt an incredible sense of relief :). I was told that the restoration will be completed tomorrow.
When I wake up the next morning, the first thing is to check the status of the restoration. oh…again. I just realized that the backup copy that my host has was not the latest, it was the backup which they have done a week ago. sigh….. The web host told me that they did backup every week but I realized that the copy that they restored for me was at least 2 weeks old.
Luckily, I have a copy of backup in my hard drive, I restored it but there are somehow errors occured (as the backup was incomplete)
Well, long story short, I decided to change web host. There are 2 main reasons why I wanted to change my web host :-
1) The support at the old hosting sucks ! I can only pray hard waiting for their reply.
2) The old hosting server is super sLoW…slower that a tortoise ?
Well, after hearing a lot of testimonials from customers, I decided to move all my sites to hostgator. I glad I did. The support is great (they even have online chat which customer can interact instantly) and the server speed beats most if not all of the hosting company that I used before. It’s simply amazing.
I would like to thank the hostgator team who has halped me to fixed the errors. Your great support is very impressive.
Lessons Learnt…Make Backup frequently, check or verify it (to make it completed successfully) and keep a copy in your local hard drive.
Have a great weekend !

Hey Online DIY Guy, it sounds like what I experienced last year but unfortunately in my case, I lost all the data
very upset with the host. Anyway I know I am the one to blame too as I did not do my own backup…
good luck !
